Two excellent books that fall into the "oldy but Gody" category are Origins of American Political Thought: Selected Readings, edited by John P. Roche (1967, Harper Torchbooks) and American political Thought: From Jefferson to Progressivism, also edited by John P. Roche (1967, Harper Torchbooks). While these are not easily digested by any but the most advanced high school students, they are in my opinion MUST READS for anyone who teaches the course. I last read them back in about 1978, and only recently pulled them from the shelf to have another go 'round. I'm not sure how available copies still are, but they should be out there somewhere. I will be happy to lend them out to adults who understand the value of a classic book and who promise to return them in good condition.
